Castlereigh is one of the most historic sites in Australia's colonial history, only an hour from Sydney and yet home to the quiet of nature. In a clearing among the trees, RMA is designing a home that balances an epic scale with intimate spaces, allowing family groups to live separately and come together.
Taking cues from a Danish style of architecture, the single-storey building features a pronounced gable roof with folded edges, and large eves to provide protection from the summer sun.
Solid walls and simple glazed openings surround a central, symmetrical courtyard. Flanking water ponds, lawns, a large-scale garage and even a new tractor shed complete this ordered yet inviting family home.
