RMA è orgogliosa di avere avuto l'opportunità di progettare un importante edificio di appartamenti in questo sito raro e ben tenuto di fronte ai famosi Royal Botanic Gardens di Melbourne.

La sfida per questo sito era il fatto di essere fiancheggiato su entrambi i lati da edifici molto vetrati che si affacciavano sulla proprietà - così il design doveva essere capace di offrire sia privacy che la vista sul parco.
Attingendo dalle lezioni acquisite dalla residenza di Armadale, Rob Mills ha utilizzato imponenti muri a lama per indirizzare la vista e ha introdotto la luce naturale dall'alto attraverso l'uso di grandi lucernari.
I tre appartamenti che si affacciano sul parco sono dotati di balconi profondi e protetti che danno direttamente sulla vegetazione, mentre la grande terrazza dell’attico sul tetto è completa di piscina e giardino.
Il codice edilizio, che consente agli elementi decorativi architettonici di superare i 12 metri, è stato sfruttato al massimo aggiungendo qualità al design delle’edificio ed a ciò che esso restituisce alla strada.
Inoltre, delle graziose scuderie riconvertite sul retro consentono l'accesso ad un ulteriore edificio di quattro piani collocato di fianco ai tre appartamenti principali rivolti verso il parco.
For the mid-level apartment, roof windows bring light and space within, while residents also enjoy views towards the treeline of the Botanic Gardens. Beneath, the ground floor apartment delivers a more direct relationship with nature, connecting seamlessly to a private garden.
The graceful lines of the exterior and the sculptural design of the interiors feature curved walls that allow light to travel easily. Steel-framed glass doors soften transitions and enhance the volumes of spaces that feel both generous and enveloping.
The material selection connects visually with the natural world outside, such as in the richly-veined natural stone or the textures of the polished plaster walls. Lush rugs and flowing fabrics introduce softness, while the timber flooring laid in a plank style is finished in hard wax oil to heighten its organic, earthy quality.
Even within its tightly held urban context, the design was carefully considered to connect residents to greenery—whether a private garden or views to the stately treelines of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens—and ultimately to encourage a life lived more mindfully.
