With the Bayside Apartments, which are only 100 metres from the beach, we set out to appeal to a younger generation in both the architecture and the interior styling.
Rob Mills
This three-level boutique apartment building of nine individual units finds its fullest expression in the north-facing penthouse.
“We discovered that the planning code allowed us to go above 12 metres if we created an architectural feature, and so we explored the idea of a pitched roof,” says Mills. Enjoying the freedom to break away from traditional notions of penthouse space, which are normally only about increased floor plan and increased height, Bayside plays with a vernacular form in the sky.
The space takes on a Scandinavian look, which is further emphasised by the choice of furnishings and fabrics.
